Your smile is very important to our dental team at Blakeney Dental. That’s why we encourage you to do everything you can to take first-rate care of your teeth and gums. You see, your dental checkup just isn’t enough to keep your smile in shape. So to help you retain a beautiful and healthy smile, we have a few basic pointers.

First and foremost, you’ll want to brush your teeth twice a day. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush, as this is both effective and easy on your tooth enamel. Set a timer for two minutes and methodically clean each tooth. This will help remove plaque and food particles, keeping your teeth bright and clean.

Second, floss your smile once daily. This is to remove all the plaque and food that brushing cannot reach—that which is stored between your teeth. Flossing is the singlemost powerful practice to defeat gum disease. If you don’t like regular floss, try a different product like disposable flossers or a water flosser.

Third, come and visit Dr. Mark Ranzinger every six months. Our dental cleaning and exam can help you prevent major dental issues, like tooth decay and gum disease, and help us help set you on the right path.

Fourth, eat healthy food. Foods high in sugar, starch and acid can harm your teeth. Try raw vegetables, fruit, and dairy products instead; water-rich foods and those high in phosphorus and calcium will help keep you teeth strong. You can also chew on sugarless gum after meals. This can help you produce saliva and wash bacteria away.
